This 365 day project features photos that include words (actual or implied),
text, books,
writing, letters and numbers, signs, libraries, and.... well, you get the idea.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
and that has made all the difference.

Taken via bike-cam.

Did you ever just get the urge to ditch your everyday life and become a pirate girl?

blue (bl)
n.
1. The hue of that portion of the visible spectrum lying between green and indigo, evoked in the human observer by radiant energy with wavelengths of approximately 420 to 490 nanometers; any of a group of colors that may vary in lightness and saturation, whose hue is that of a clear daytime sky; one of the additive or light primaries; one of the psychological primary hues.

What's your definition? Blue is _______?

Little Miss Muffet, sat on her tuffet....

In a fairy tale book somewhere, I remember seeing an illustration of Little Miss Muffet sitting on her tuffet, which was depicted as a beautiful Queen Anne's lace flower (like the one above), and her tea set was all made out of other flowers -- bluebells. buttercups, and daisies.

Along came a spider....

If you click the photo once, and then click it again to see it largest, you'll notice that Little Miss Muffet's spider friend has arrived to share her tea.

I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...

With a sister named Dorothy, you can bet we watched this movie every year when it was shown on TV. Now that it's on all the time, a little of the magic has worn off. But I still love it, don't you?

day 178 of 365

The place to stop on the Cape Cod Rail trail through Harwich.

6.22.2010

day 176 of 365

Remember how I mentioned that I often don't heed warning signs? There are only a few that stop me in my tracks. Here's one that got my attention:

Worse than a warning sign about a guard dog is a warning sign with a likeness of the dog himself...and his teeth. I'm steering clear.

6.21.2010

day 175 of 365

Get in line. It's summer on Cape Cod.

Parnassus Book Service
in Yarmouth Port. Where the honor system is still alive and well (click the photo below to read the sign).

6.18.2010

day 172 of 365

I spent many happy hours hanging out at the Powder Point bridge & beach in Duxbury during my junior and senior years of High School. I passed by it this week on my way to a meeting -- weird to revisit a place with so many memories after (gasp!) 35 years. It's surprising how little it has changed.

6.17.2010

day 171 of 365

I judge books by their covers every day, and I thought this one was pretty. Who knew this would be a collection of Washington Irving stories?

6.16.2010

day 170 of 365

I am

6.15.2010

day 169 of 365

Driving down the back roads of West Barnstable, I spotted this desk, which looked like it had been set free to enjoy the great outdoors and wide open spaces. Free at last!

6.14.2010

day 168 of 365

I discovered the fabled "bunny trail" that people sing about every Easter -- it's right here on Cape Cod, just off the Shining Sea bike path in the Salt Pond Area Reservation. I spotted Peter Cottontail and about 50 of his friends while traveling along this beautiful path. Click the photos to see them a little closer (but not TOO close or they'll hop away!)

6.13.2010

day 167 of 365

Yesterday by pure coincidence blogger/flickr pals Windy Richardson and Michel Feist both featured Volkswagen buses in their photos. It got me reminiscing about Volkswagens of the past -- I grew up riding in the back seat of two different buses, and then enjoyed the Karmen Ghia life in college.

But a bug is what I've always coveted. And then in the midst of my trip down memory lane, what should I spot but this sweet little temptress. I think the universe it trying to tell me something, don't you?

Handyman's special. Close to airport and train tracks. Needs TLC.

day 163 of 365

This sign hangs in the kitchen of a bed and breakfast run by two men. :)

My apologies to the men out there -- I don't actually believe the words on this sign. In my experience, men are just as talented at making beds and breakfast as women. It's not that they can't; they often just choose not to. Pretty smart, I'd say.

6.08.2010

day 162 of 365

I'm participating in Creativity Boot Camp, and one of the words-for-the-day was "picnic."

So we all got busy bringing things out to the back yard -- our two friends were having a little trouble with the mustard.

6.03.2010

day 157 of 365

I'm always trying to read meaning into things that may or may not be more than they seem. So, is this a trail marker? A sculpture? A memorial? A meditation?

Our very silly local reporter encountered similar rock piles in the woods of West Barnstable. Let's see what he thinks:

Attention K Mart shoppers: there's an impromtu sculpture garden in the grassy strip behind the airport. Exhibit available for viewing any time.
