This 365 day project features photos that include words (actual or implied),
text, books,
writing, letters and numbers, signs, libraries, and.... well, you get the idea.

You've got mail!

OK -- you've got to view this large.  Click here for a bigger view.

9.29.2010

day 275 of 365

Ah, morning.  I love the quiet routine at the start of the day.  I'm musing on mornings in an earlier time over on Mortal Muses today.  Stop by to see some morning beauty.

9.28.2010

day 274 of 365

Chamber pot.  Now that's a word you don't hear much these days.

I've been soaking up history at the Nye family homestead.  Come on over to my other blog and see more treasures from a bygone era.

9.27.2010

day 273 of 365

Summer's ship has sailed.  So long, summer. Welcome, fall!  My favorite time of year.

9.26.2010

day 272 of 365

Constant Comment.  It's the way to start your morning.

9.25.2010

day 271 of 365

Flowers for sale -- on the honor system -- on a back road.  Who could resist?

9.24.2010

day 270 of 365

Playing with mirrors in Wood's Hole.  That's me (waving) and my old college buddy Lindy -- some of you may follow her 365 blog.  We got to have dinner and take some pictures and catch up after 30 years apart.  Thanks Miss Lindy -- it was wonderful!

9.23.2010

9.22.2010

day 268 of 365

It's the first day of fall on Cape Cod.  The tourists have closed up their beach umbrellas and gone home.

9.21.2010

day 267 of 365

This person gets an A+ for politeness and motivational reinforcement.

9.20.2010

day 266 of 365

Oh, the end of summer is nearly upon us -- or "fall equinox" if you want to get technical.  The tourists have gone home,  and the seagulls have the beach mostly to themselves.

I'm musing on end-of-summer delights over at Mortal Muses today.  Stop by!

9.19.2010

day 265 of 365

Had a mini-reunion of old college friends -- haven't seen most of them in 30 years.  It was a fantastic afternoon!  That's me on the far right.

And oh, look at the day -- #265 of my 365 project!  Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?

9.18.2010

day 264 of 365

Sort-of ready for business at The Burger Queen in Provincetown.

9.17.2010

day 263 of 365

Wow.  This book was donated to the library today, and I just had to share it with you.

Is it just me, or is this not the most instructive book cover you've ever seen?

9.16.2010

day 262 of 365

I was going through old boxes of photos and letters last night, and came across this photo of my grandmother, Dorothy Abbot Loomis,  taken in 1914 at noted photographer Clarence White's Seguinland School of Photography in Maine.  My grandmother Dorothy was an avid and talented photographer, and I have a number of photos of her taken during this time period, either by White himself or one of the students at the school.  Read more about my grandmother's own photography and see some of her photos here.

9.15.2010

day 261 of 365

I was a doll girl growing up -- I had a wonderful dollhouse that my father made for me and I'd play for hours, inhabiting doll-land.  The dollhouse fell to pieces years ago, but I still have all my dollhouse furniture and the family of dolls that lived in the house.  It was a multicultural family -- half of them were 1920s Americans, and half were Mexican farmers from the turn of the century.  I don't remember how I acquired them but they were one big happy family.

This is a peek through the window of the dollhouse at the Pilgrim Monument Museum in Provincetown.  I could have stayed there happily all afternoon, living again in doll-land.

You can see more of my doll and toy photos here.

day 260 of 365

Just behind that door and down the hallway, you'll find that justice reigns supreme.

9.13.2010

day 259 of 365

My college friend Lori is the most wonderful cone-head I know.

Haven't seen each other in 15 years, but what's a few years, anyway?  A day in Provincetown made the years melt away.  Amazing how time does that.

9.12.2010

day 258 of 365

...and suddenly, up ahead on the trail, a sign appeared.

First there were 6-word stories.  Then there were 10-word stories

Leave a comment and tell your very-short-story in 6 or 10 words.

9.11.2010

day 257 of 365

I'm reflecting on opposites today over on Mortal Muses.  And also giving away a bit of the sea.  Stop by!

9.10.2010

day 256 of 365

In case you weren't aware.

9.09.2010

day 255 of 365

This old place had its last hurrah this week.  Read about the owners and their love story here.

9.08.2010

day 254 of 365

I know I am solid and sound,
To me the converging objects of the universe perpetually flow,
All are written to me, and I must get what the writing means.

--Walt Whitman, Song of Myself

9.05.2010

day 251 of 365

Horrors, you say?  I think this is the greatest title for a book ... and you can see more Edward Gorey stuff over on my other blog today.  C'mon over!  I know you want to peek.

9.04.2010

day 250 of 365

Hurricane Earl fizzled.  Now the sun is shining and it's a beautiful Labor Day weekend.

This bridge over the Centerville River attracts lots of teenagers who like to jump in at high tide.  But I'm not sure -- is jumping allowed or not allowed?  Click the photo to see it large, and you be the judge.

9.03.2010

day 249 of 365

Tomato? Tomahto?  Fruit or vegetable?  Whatever they are, I've got to drag the tomato plants from the deck into the garage -- hurricane coming!

9.02.2010

day 248 of 365

In this techno-laden world, we still use this old workhorse every day at the library to type the kinds of things that computers haven't mastered.  Little tiny labels, words on special bookplates.  Stuff like that.

I'm musing on antiques (and typewriters) over at Mortal Muses today.  Stop on by!

9.01.2010

day 247 of 365

If I ever get around to finishing my alphabet series, which stalled at the letter L, I think I found the letter Y.  (And I know I remind you all the time, but this one is worth clicking once, and then again, to make it extra large.  Lots of bubbly blue bokeh.)
