Being a lover of all things old and historic, I often traipse around old cemeteries just to soak in the sense of the past that lives among the gravestones. My friends Sherry and her kids told me about a favorite stone in a cemetery nearby, and so I went on a hunt for it. She told me they used to visit her because they loved her name.
A few stones over I found my favorite...Freelove Crosby. A name equally comfortable in 18th and 19th century New England and 1960s San Francisco.

You share a passion of mine. I often visit cemeteries when I'm in a reflective mood and wonder what the story behind the people buried there are.
ReplyDeleteTo lovely captures.
Si
I was just telling my husband on Sunday that I wanted to go take some photos in some of the old cemeteries around town!
ReplyDeleteLovely names and very amazing stones. I love graveyard stones that date way back because they look very special
ReplyDeleteok, this is totally going to give away my immaturity, but i cracked up (hah! pun intended) when i saw the first picture. i'm suuuuuch a dork.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots, cemeteries do seems to hold interest... I might venture on walk one day!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really strange name for someone in 1800. Isnt it? What is the oldest one? I always like to find that one!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny -- I found a 19th century Freelove in a cemetery tucked up on top of a hill in Guilford or Halifax a few years ago, and it was definitely my favorite of the day.
ReplyDeleteI love graveyards and was doing some photography in a local cemetary not too long ago when the cranky graveyard guy came out and yelled at me about how the dead folk don't want to be photographed. He really made me want to put him underground to see if what he was telling me was all that accurate.
