This 365 day project features photos that include words (actual or implied),
text, books,
writing, letters and numbers, signs, libraries, and.... well, you get the idea.

After you're done at the courthouse, then they send you to jail.

The Barnstable County Courthouse was built in 1831, after the original courthouse burned down in 1829. It presides over the little village from high on it's hill.

I've been tagged by a flickr friend. If you're dying to know more about me, I wrote it all down and posted it here. Stop in and read all the fascinating tidbits!

This is Richard's Barber Shop in Barnstable Village. The sign in the window says "Men with no hair on the top of head $9.00." As I was taking pictures, Richard waved me inside and happily introduced himself. A great shop -- like a blast from the past. Thanks, Richard!

the big 5-0

I wanted to pause in the course of my daily posts to do a little dance of celebration -- there are now 50 official followers of this blog, which is a kind of a wonderful-kooky-baffling-phenomenal thing. To people with wildly popular blogs, this might not seem like such a big milestone. But to me it's pretty darn cool. So -- many thanks to all of you who follow me each day. Give yourselves a round of applause, a pat on the back, a kiss on the cheek, and a great big hug. I try to follow each of your blogs, too, and comment when I can.

For those of you who follow unofficially, or who haven't left a comment before, I'd love to hear from you -- leave a comment below with your thoughts, or a link to your blog or website or flickr photostream. I really love to hear what you're doing, see the amazing photos that you're taking, or read the inspiring words you've written.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone. Hannah's gift to me is pictured in the post below -- and the flowers in the photo above were given to me by my son Nick. Thanks so much to my great kids for making me feel special. You can read a post I wrote about them last week (on my other blog) here.

And happy day to MY mom -- you can read about her HERE.

They're still there -- right in the parking lot at my dentist's office, where they were on August 11th, 2009. They were a little bluer then -- click here to see. Maybe Hanes needs a new slogan -- something about standing up to the elements?

day 130 of 365

My coworker Karen came roaring into work today in this little number -- a cute little vintage convertible MG. It took me back to the 1960s when we lived in Carmel, California, and my Dad had a baby-blue MGB (Mom drove a Volkswagen bus with the words "Sue's Zoo" written on the side).

I remember Dad picking me up from girl scouts one day, and taking me for a ride, at about 90 miles an hour, on the spectacular, curvy roads of Carmel Valley and out along the coast. I was absolutely terrified and absolutely enthralled -- to be flying like the wind, to be spending special one-on-one time with my father (a delicious rarity), and to be 10 years old in 1968 with the top down and the Mamas and the Papas on the radio -- we didn't need to be California Dreamin' -- we were living it!

That was a great car -- a little impractical for a family of 6 -- but iy was every 1960s businessman's dream car, I'm sure. Anybody else have memories of great cars growing up?

day 129 of 365

For some reason these two photos -- one from my garden walk in the last post, and one from our vacation caving trip -- seemed to go together to make a statement about the path we're all on. A little bit rough some days, a little mysterious, some days edged with a bit of fear of how we'll get through it. Intrigue. Curiosity. Excitement.

Step carefully. And if you decide to wander off the path, invite me along. Take my hand. I'll go with you.
